Why Believe?

Who will you invite to our "Why Believe?" series?
At this point you may be thinking of all the reasons why not to... powerful reasons that have stopped you reaching out in the past.
That's why you must begin with prayer. What is impossible for you is possible through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Begin by praying Paul's prayer for them...
"I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,
may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation,
so that you may know him better.
I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened
in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you,
the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
and his incomparably great power for us who believe."
(Eph. 1:17 - 19)

Psalm 27

This Pslam is pretty amazing - Have a read of it again!!

Is the truth of this Psalm enabling you to live a confident life??
What is its truth going to enable you to do this week??

Are you confident in the promises of God? have aread of these - Rom 8:38, Eph 2:4-7, 1 Peter 3:3-6

Are you in a place where it is hard to be confident? I ask you to do as David did - "call out to the Lord" "ask the Lord" "seek God's face", "wait for the Lord"

In times of Joy or in times of trial may we be able to say this as David did:

I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord

House Of Prayer

"My House will be called a house of prayer for all Nations"Isaiah 56:7

Jesus cried out "My house will be called a house of prayer"Matthew 21:13

Is our Church know as a house of prayer?
Last night at our prayer service this truth was laid on us again. God asked us the question - Are you going to keep following after Jesus who taught us to pray? It might get tough - ups and downs lots of hard work. Are we going to believe that we are who God has made us to be - "a people of prayer" ? - are we going to fly? Are we going to love - both God and our neighbour by being, His House of Prayer?

Let us this week be known as a house of prayer - a people who show their dependence on the Almighty God by crying out to him, for those hurting, for growth, for the lost!!!

Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left keep your feet from evil" Proverbs 4:25-27

Serving Free??

Ephesians 1:13& 14 Having believed you were marked in him with a seal , the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession - to the praise of his glory."
Are you being free to serve this week?
Knowing that you have been bought at a price, are owned and seated in heaven - how are you serving your saviour today?
Have a read of Galations 5&6 again - You have the power of the Holy Spirit to be able to do imeasurably more than you thought. Love Joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness & self control.
Are people knowing you are a christian this week by your love and service?

A Kid's life.

For all of us who have underestimated the value of Children's ministry....
Late one evening D.L. Moody, the premier American evangelish of the 1800s, arrived home from speaking at a meeting. Emma, his wife, was already asleep. As her exhausted husband climbed into bed, she rolled over and murmured, “So how did it go tonight?”
“Pretty well,” he replied. “Two and a half converts.”
His wife lay silently for a moment pondering this response, then finally smiled. “That’s sweet,” she replied. “How old was the child?”
“No, no, no” Moody answered. “It was two children and one adult! The children have their whole lives in front of them The adult’s life is already half-gone”

Sunday is a great opportunity to fulfill the words of Christ, "let the children come to me."
Come along and support this vital work!

Freedom!!!!

Sunday Ray preached on the freedom that the spirit brings to our lives. Rules and regulations are not what define us as Christians - rather living Spirit filled lives as the children of the living God is what we should be know as.

How would you answer the question: What does it mean to be a Christian?
What situations are you putting your self in that someone would even ask you this question?

This week we continue to look at the freedom that the Spirit brings to our lives. Have a read of Galatians 5 & 6. Here Paul puts a different spin on the idea of freedom - he says we are free to serve (vs 13).
He speaks about this spirit filled service as 'a command' (5:14), He says this spirit filled life is 'fulfilling the law of Christ'(6:2) and later he speaks about those 'who follow this rule' (6:16).
I thought the spirit brought freedom from all this law stuff?!? What's going on? are we free or are we not???? Are we still under the law?? Come along on Sunday prepared to explore these questions?

Indispensable Spirit

We can never discount the essential role of the Holy Spirit in our salvation.
At times we become confused by the focus on the 'sensational'  works of the Spirit, and forget his vital role in salvation.
The Spirit's role is summed up by one person who wrote,
"Nobody can benefit from the Christ’s work unless he is united with him. And the concrete link of this union is none other than the Holy Spirit. ... it is because the Spirit operates on believers that they are truly involved in the saving work of the mediator."
God applies the Son's saving work through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Never stop looking to God for his Spirit to help you grow in the knowledge and assurance of faith.

Feeling Powerful?

Feeling powerful this week after Pentecost Sunday?
If not that's OK, its usually when we are weak that God is strongest!!

But that being said we do need to put our self in situations where we may feel weak -

  • Talking to someone about faith

  • Going and serving someone when your not quite sure how?

  • Following up on someone when you may think, that they will think, you are nagging?

........what is it God is asking you to do in His strength this week?

Read 1 Cor 1:26-2:5 - Act in faith this week and see how God will work!!

Keep on asking our Father God - who knows how to give good gifts - for his Spirit!!

For God did not give us a Spirit of timidity but a Spirit of power, love and self discipline.
